A North Carolina Native, Hemlocke Springs is a 23-year-old indie-pop artist pursuing a Master’s Degree at Dartmouth College. According to a TikTok that she created, she has always had an interest in pursuing music. However, since the pandemic, she has decided to release music in a way to connect people.
Hemlocke Springs, in general, isn’t new to the TikTok scene, nor is she new to the music scene. Previously, Springs released a song titled “Gimme all ur Luv” in May 2022, which also went viral on TikTok with its release. However, it wasn’t until the release and promotion of her new viral single “girlfriend.”
Unique Up-Beat Sound
Users on TikTok have accurately described the song as “synth 80’s indie pop” as its upbeat and playful sound is uniquely similar to 80’s pop with a mix of 2012 indie pop most common in the indie sleaze era once popular in the 2010s.
“You say I want to be your girlfriend/It wasn’t really my plans,” she whispers in the bridge proving the song to be a playful-like rom-com single that gives somewhat Marina and The Diamond vibes.

Fans of Hemlocke Springs are taking to TikTok to express their downright obsession with the song. Even artists, such as Khalid, are recording themselves dancing to their songs. I mean, it’s hard not to!
Since releasing their song on just about every music outlet, Hemlocke Springs has found great success. I have a feeling that she will be gracing our ears with more songs in the foreseeable future, and I, for one, cannot wait.
