A new One Piece anime adaptation has been announced by Netflix and The One Piece production committee, consisting of representatives from Shueisha, Fuji Television Network, and Toei Animation Co. As well as Eiichiro Oda himself.
Announced at the end of Jump Festa 2024, the upcoming project titled The One Piece will be a complete remake of the series, separate from the ongoing TV anime series by Toei Animation that started in 1999.
Wit Studio, known for the first three seasons of Attack on Titan and Spy X Family, will be the studio in charge of The One Piece’s animation. Like the Netflix live-action adaptation, this new project will cover the first arc of the manga, known as the East Blue Saga.
Both groups shared excitement at the newest One Piece project promising to “provide viewers with a fresh yet familiar experience, utilizing cutting-edge visual technology to reimagine Luffy’s adventures through the beloved East Blue Saga.”
It’s unknown when The One Piece will make its debut on Netflix, but production for the project has been confirmed.
Additionally, an adaptation of one of Oda’s early works is making its way to Netflix in January. Monsters 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation tells the story of a samurai entangled in a world disrupted by an ominous force, a dragon capable of unleashing catastrophic destruction upon the land. This will be the manga’s first-ever anime adaptation.
