Pandemic Power Albums

International tours, concerts, and music festivals all over the globe have been canceled due to the pandemic. Although it may have put a halt in music lovers being able to see their favorite artists perform live, it hasn’t stopped those artists from releasing new content to entertain their listeners from home. Here are some albums and singles that have dropped and rose to the top during quarantine.

1. Heartbreak Weather

Niall Horan released his second studio album on March 13th, 2020 but had released four singles before this point. The album is about 46 minutes long and includes songs that tell a story from many different sides. Although he did announce tour dates around the globe, it was canceled due to the pandemic but plans to reschedule in the future. The album received good feedback from music critics and opened at number four on the US Billboard 200.

2. 3.15.20

Childish Gambino released his fourth studio album on, you guessed it, March 15th, 2020 on a stream playing in a loop for 12 hours until it was stopped and taken down. It was later reuploaded this time to streaming services as “3.15.20,” under Childish Gambino’s name. The album has gotten great reviews from critics and had guest appearances from artists like Ariana Grande and 21 Savage. A cool fact about the album is that some of the track titles refer to where they appear in the album. Ex. 12.38 is 12 minutes and 28 seconds into the album.

3. Eternal Atake

Lil Uzi Vert has come out with his first project since 2017 and was released on March 6th, 2020. The album includes the single Futsal Shuffle 2020 which reached the top 5 positions in the US Billboard Hot 100, US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, and the US Rolling Stone Top 100. A deluxe version of the album was released a week later on March 13th, 2020. After revealing to Instagram on January 11th, 2019 that he was done with music and was deleting everything, it seems he has come to his senses and gave his fans what they have been waiting for. The album got outstanding reviews and the fans loved it as well.

4. Suga

Megan Thee Stallion has gained a surplus of fans and supporters from her previous music but especially so after the three singles from her album released before the album reached top spots in streaming platforms. The album, “Suga,” was released on March 6th, 2020, and features stars like Kehlani and Gunna. The lead single “B.I.T.C.H.” debuted before the album and Megan Thee Stallion even performed it on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. Overall, the album was well-liked and she was praised for her self empowerment and hip-hop power.
