The Problem With Treating Every Election Like the End of the World

Every time the elections start happening, people are losing their minds. The day of the election lasts several hours, and people are constantly posting on social media about who is winning and by how much, who they think is going to win, and everything. They act as if the person they voted for doesn’t win, then the world is over. They start preparing for the worst.

I don’t pay much attention to the elections. I personally don’t vote for myself because I can’t choose a side, although I am more pro one side than the other. Sure, I watch the election and keep up with the latest news about the war and such, but otherwise I don’t pay attention. I don’t post on social media who I hope wins or anything like that, though.

Some people, though, act as if the person they choose doesn’t get elected, then it’s the end of the world. They freak out, some may move out of the country, or just make nonsensical posts on social media like “If my choice doesn’t win, everything is going to fall apart and it’ll be the end of the world”

This is an over-dramatic response, but I can understand, because if someone you didn’t choose gets to rule your country, it may as well feel like the world is going to end. There are already things happening in the real world with the war and such that make us Americans get scared for our lives. If I had a choice, I would flee to another country myself to avoid all the drama.

Elections are not the end of the world, but I do dread them when they happen, and I think even people who hate politics pay attention to the election, and even people from other countries watch elections as well, just to know who is going to have control over the country and what they plan on doing after they are elected.

I think we shouldn’t treat it as the end of the world, but we also should not take it for granted. It is our future after all!
