The past few weeks have been tense for the Trump administration, particularly in Washington, D.C. In the lead up to the celebration of the United State’s 250 birthday, President Trump made wide sweeping efforts to transform the nation’s capital into a place seemingly fit for that massive celebration. Additionally, he also used these efforts to predictably make this event about himself.
This led to buildings like the John F Kennedy Center being renamed to include Trump’s name, and for the iconic Washington Memorial reflecting pool to be renovated with fixes that Trump claimed would make the attraction better than before. Unfortunately for Trump, the renovations backfired, and each attempt at fixing it only seems to make the issues worse.
Currently, the reflection pool is suffering from an algae problem, in addition to the recently added blue tiling peeling off from the bottom. While it would be normal to assume the Trump Administration would make a statement detailing their missteps in handling the reflection pool, they have done the opposite.
Most of their and other republican media have done is either shift the blame or even deny that any of the problems the reflection pool is facing are even happening. The most notable example being Fox News, which aired a live segment at the pool, boldly claiming that its waters were crystal blue.
Most people who watched that segment shared their doubts online, noting that the water in the background was unfact green, better helped by thousands of videos online of regular people going to the pool to see for themselves. The reflecting pool has quickly become an issue that the Trump administration can’t easily brush aside, and any attempt to do so only makes them look bad.
It’s become a shining example that many point to of how the Trump administration is currently failing at its job to lead and govern.
