The Pittsburgh Steelers are off to the best start in team history at 8-0. While most victories have come without much stress and few teams have challenged them down the stretch, the team has run into some dangerous adversity that’s out of their control.
Unfortunately for the Steelers, tight end Vance McDonald tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday. McDonald and every player that had high contact with him after practice have been placed on the reserve/Covid-19 list. Those players include quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, offensive lineman Jerald Hawkins, running back Jaylen Samuels, and linebacker Vince Williams.
The players will have to pass tests prior to Sunday to play in their matchup with the Bengals. While the Bengals may not pose the biggest threat to the Steelers’ perfect record on paper, Joe Burrow should not be underestimated, especially if Roethlisberger is deemed unable to play.
While more players will be subject to testing throughout the week, it will be interesting to see if more players test positive. The divisional matchup with the Bengals could be more trouble if other key players test positive.
