It’s common knowledge that Donald Trump had one of the most memorable political campaigns in the past decade. It’s caused one of the biggest modern cases of blind loyalty this country has ever seen with the Make America Great Again movement. This idea that America was better in the past and if we just reverted to how we did things before, then the country would improve and we’d magically get our cheap prices back. Any time it didn’t work that way, people would blame others, like the Iran War, the Israel-Palestine War, or the Democrats.
Donald Trump only has two more years left before his second term ends, and he cannot run again, hopefully. America’s set its identity around pro-Trump supporters and a government bent on war in a conquest to get as much oil as possible in order to have cheaper gas prices. Despite this, our gas prices have only stayed the same or gone up over time. There are some diesel stations in Texas that have run out of gas completely as of recent times.
People view President Trump as a savior of sorts, since a lot of people view the present as a worse version of the past; the idea of bringing back the past sounds great to many older folks. The Republican movement that made Trump such an icon was tied to President Trump specifically; no other Republican candidate has ever had a movement tied to his name as much as Trump has, and it’ll be difficult to emulate this fanaticism over a political figure.
This begs the question of what will happen after Donald Trump leaves the presidential office. Whoever runs as the next Republican presidential candidate will have huge shoes to fill; it’s clear the people want a savior of sorts, someone who knows what they want and can put it in a catchy slogan so that anyone can understand.
I wonder if they’re going to attempt to emulate what Trump did back in 2016 or try to ride off of his wave of success. I can almost guarantee that whoever runs for the Republican candidate in 2028 will try some of Trump’s strategies with their own twist. I doubt anybody could gain such a hold over Republicans as much as President Trump has over the past ten years; some will still remain attached to him even after his departure.
Moving forward I’m hoping we strive away from fanatical movements tied to a vague cause that people blindly latch onto instead promising real specific change that people can understand more of by looking for more than two seconds. I wish this trend of Democrats doing nothing versus Republicans taking oil through war would change into something positive for once, but that’s wishful thinking.
