If you’ve seen the White House Twitter account at any point within the past few years, you may have seen an insensitive AI-generated meme or two from their account, promoting ICE and “keeping illegal aliens out” or something along those lines.
The professional conduct of official government social media accounts since President Trump’s inauguration and the rise of AI chatbots has gone down the drain. The official White House Twitter posts AI-generated memes instilling their values of deporting “aliens” and “making America great again” in what they view as a humorous way to improve relatability.
However, this relatability instead comes off as a half-assed, controversial statement on the official government social media page. Naturally everything the U.S. government does gets marred with controversy since we have all types of people in this country, but it’s one thing for hateful people to spread offensive rhetoric; those are bad apples, people who one can ignore easily. It’s another thing when the governing body of your country is posting this offensive rhetoric for millions to see worldwide. Our current president uses a “truth” focused social media to post instead of popular social media platforms because his statements stir too much controversy and hatred.
We live in an era where people blindly trust the Trump Administration with cult-like behavior under the “MAGA” movement, and most others feel a sense of bitterness toward their priorities and Christian-nationalist-centered beliefs that try and conserve the 1950s American dream nuclear family.
Leaders should come off as strong, professional, and put-together people, like how a parent should come off as caring, strong, and protective, but not everyone shares that worldview; a lot of people hold lax beliefs on what it means to be an adult, in a political sense that just means “owning the libs.”
I think this all sucks. I prefer when the government is a boring body of power; people from other countries hate us for good reasons. We come off as a hateful country trying to keep an outdated sense of purity; there’s not a drop of tact in the way our government handles things, and they don’t have to care since nobody will punish them.
I prefer our government doing nothing over this, and I hope a new administration cleans up the mess this one’s left behind.
