There has been controversy surrounding the “Snow Princess” also known as Eileen Gu and China’s patriotism towards her. Gu is a 18-year-old U.S. born freestyle skier for the Chinese team. She is considered a prominent figure for China at the Winter Olympics. Gu was able to win gold at the Beijing 2022 games.
As tensions arise in the Ukraine, U.S. President Joe Biden is in a tough position on whether or not to believe Russian officials when they stated that Russian troops have withdrawn from the borders. On Tuesday, February 15, 2022, Russian officials released video footage of tanks being loaded on railway cars as well as communicating that troops were returning to their home bases after completing military drills. U.S. President Joe Biden during a televised statement stated, “That would be good, but we have not verified that yet. An invasion by Moscow remained distinctly possible.” Joe Biden is highly urging all U.S. citizens in Ukraine to leave the country.
Coachella and Stagecoach will not be requiring vaccinations or masking at their upcoming festivals. Coachella is a music and arts festival that will be held April 15-17 and April 23-25. Stagecoach is a country music festival that will be held April 29-May 1. Both of these festivals garner large attention being that they both manage to bring in popular names respective to the genre that each festival caters to.

This discovery was made by the House panel investigating the January 6, 2021 insurrection. If you’re unfamiliar with what this event was, it was when a mob of around 2,500 of Trump’s supporters attacked the Capitol. The goal of this attack was to overturn the 2020 election, something in which Trump consistently talked about very passionately on social media. He even went as far as to accuse his own Vice President, Mike Pence, of being able to overturn the election.
Eminem, “The Real Slim Shady” rapper, took a knee during this weekend’s Super Bowl. The rapper performed alongside Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, and Snoop Dogg during the halftime show. At the end of his performance, he dropped to one knee and hung his head low to pay homage to San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick took a knee during a San Diego game during the National Anthem to bring awareness to police brutality and racial inequality. Kaepernick taking this powerful stance started a movement of athletes kneeling in protest.

Willow Smith will no longer be performing in Billie Eilish’s “Happier Than Ever” world tour. Smith was supposed to be Eilish’s opening act on 11 of the dates for the North American tour. This would have started February 9th at the Capitol One Arena in Washington, D.C. and ran until March 8th. In regards to the situation Smith tweeted, “Due to production limitations, I am unable to put on the show that I believe you all deserve, stay safe, I love you all and I will see you soon!”

Zhu Yi has been facing backlash from Chinese fans due to her performance at the Olympics. The backlash started after Zhu’s performance Sunday. She failed to land a jump and crashed into a wall. The negative commentary on her performance increased after her Monday performance where she fell down twice.
