College Football Playoffs: A New Rivalry is Born

On Friday, College Football fans across the country will take a seat on their couch to watch what could perhaps be the game of the year. Whichever side you’re on, it’s going to be one hell of a game either way. The rematch of last year’s CFP semifinal between the No. 2 Clemson Tigers and No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes. A game that last year was dominated by the Buckeyes until the fourth quarter when Trevor Lawrence and the Tigers stole the game

While this semifinal will most likely be a hard-fought victory for whatever side comes out on top, the other semifinal probably won’t be. This seems to be a staple of the College Football Playoffs every year, one game is somewhat close and the other is a blowout. Per ESPN, “Of the 12 CFP semifinals played, only three have been decided by single digits and eight have been decided by 17 points or more.”. No. 1 Alabama takes on No. 4 Notre Dame, who was just torched by Clemson in the ACC Championship, and most believe this semifinal will hold the same result.

Trevor Lawrence spoke to the press about the upcoming matchup against the Buckeyes:

“It kinda became like a rivalry almost, they were on the wrong end of it last year so I know they’re gonna come ready to play.”

Justin Fields also added something about this new rivalry with the Tigers:

“It was really just heartbreaking, but we have another opportunity to go out there and play those guys so I’m gonna try to lead my team to a victory.”

The game last year ended as a 29-23 victory for the Tigers as Trevor Lawrence led them to a late fourth quarter victory after a controversial call from the referees. Justin Fields and Ohio State had the chance to win the game with a minute to go in the fourth quarter but Fields was intercepted in the end-zone to finish the game. Expect an extremely entertaining battle between these two teams as Ohio State looks to get revenge for last year.
