Flashback Athlete of the Month for June 2024

Bio
Darryl “Straw” Strawberry is a former baseball right fielder who played for the New York Mets, Lost Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees. Born in Los Angeles, California, Strawberry got his start playing baseball for the Crenshaw High School Cougars alongside his older brother Michael Strawberry.
 
Darryl was selected by the New York Mets in the 1980 Major League Baseball draft and rose to major league level in 1983, where he was named the National League’s Rookie of The Year. In 1990, Darryl became a free agent and signed on with the Los Angeles Dodgers for five-years. Darryl signed on with the San Francisco Giants later in 1994 for a limited time only to be suspended after testing positive for cocaine.
 
After a brief tenure with the Saint Paul Saints, Darryl signed on with the New York Yankees in July 1996. By the end of his career in 1999, Darryl hit 335 home runs, helped win the World Series three times and is a member of the New York Mets Hall of Fame.
