Does Posting About an Issue Actually Create Change?

When someone posts something political on their social media such as FaceBook my reaction is “Oh boy, here we go” These posts never do anything to change what is actually going on in the world. Unless you have real power in poltitics or the government, nothing will change. You can complain about global warming or even gas prices or when the current war will end but unless you are actively out there, real change is never going to happen.

The things that people complain about usually do not effect them directly. Like gay marriage or letting people use the bathroom that they associate with even if its not the gender they were assigned as at birth. People still complain about past events that we can’t even control. We will never change the world unless we make active changes.

I am all for posting your concerns of world events and what you think should be done about it but, it will always end up a big debate, especially on social media. You have to expect that friends and family, unless they all have the same views as you, will express what they think. Some issues though should not be discussed such as abortion or gun laws. Those just lead to bad arguments. Abortion is a very touchy controversal subject and it really only affects woman.

There is people who are not well informed on the current events and if they post something that they know nothing about or even argue about something they are not very familiar with it just causes a lot of drama. I also think that most opinions about political events should be kept to yourself, unless its a political group or something. I had a family member post something about bathrooms and not wanting transwoman to use the woman’s restroom. She has such strong opinion against them that I had to speak up against her opinion.

Some issues are fine to be discussed on social media but most are not and regular citizens on social media have no power to make changes. I do not post anything political on my personal social media for the sake of not losing friends or family members.
