Why Combining Military Forces With Israel Is Short-Sighted

A bipartisan motion seeking to combine the militaries of the United States and Israel has sparked a number of controversies online. This comes after a bill was introduced by Alabama Republican Representative Mike Rogers and Washington Democratic Representative Adam Smith early in May 2026. In fact, the bill hasn’t had a hearing yet.

So, in actuality, there is no active measure that has both militaries of these countries actively merging together. That said, even the fact that a bill like this was introduced worries many people.

A merger of militaries between the US and Israel seems like a good idea for some, particularly pro-Israel politicians across the aisle. It would be a physical representation of the lengthy history both countries have with each other, and no doubt help Israel stay up to date with the latest military technology advancements.

However, many see few upsides to this bill. Israel is now one of the most disliked countries in the world, for its alleged human rights abuses and the damage it has brought to the people of Palestine. The current war on Iran has done Israel no favors in helping its reputation, and for many people, having the USA stick by Israel’s side is causing more allies to slowly part ways with us.

Additionally, a recent assessment by the Pentagon on Israel has raised the counterintelligence threat of the nation to critical levels, in regard to espionage against the United States. Many critics, rightfully so, wonder why it even bothers to try to merge with a country that U.S. officials have reportedly alleged spies on not only American intelligence but the population as well.

While the reports have been denied by the Trump administration and Israeli officials, the damage is done. When this bill eventually gets a hearing, Congress will have to debate the worth of approving it amongst a population gradually growing against Israel every following year.
