Lil Nas X Responds to Backlash Over New Music Video

There’s been an unnecessary uproar over Lil Nas X’s new music video for his song “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)”. In the video, Lil Nas X slides down a pole straight to Hell and grinds on Satan.

Many people are claiming that the video was irresponsible, considering a large portion of the singer’s fan base is children. Rapper Joyner Lucas tweeted about the drama, saying, “I think the biggest problem for me is the fact he don’t understand ‘old town road’ is every kids anthem. Children love him for that record. They tuned in and subscribed to his channels. So with no disclaimer he just dropped some left field ish & all our kids seen it. Smh”.

What Lucas doesn’t understand is that this new song and its video weren’t made for kids or advertised toward children, just as his first hit Old Town Road wasn’t intended for children either. Lil Nas X explained this to Lucas in a responding tweet, saying, “i literally sing about lean and adultery in old town road. u decided to let your child listen. blame yourself.”

Conservative internet troll Kaitlin Bennett tweeted, “It’s week like these that I’m thankful to be blocked by Lil Nas X.” This tweet sparked a heated back and forth between her and the artist, where Bennett asked Lil Nas X, “Do you still see your dad?”, an inappropriate and racially charged question. Lil Nas X replied, “yep and i might f*** yours”. Kaitlin then tweeted out claims that the artist had threatened to rape her father, and she went on to call Lil Nas X a pedophile.

This drama comes just weeks after an uproar over the performance of the song “WAP” by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion at the Grammys.

I will never understand why people get so offended by sexually open performances by artists, especially ones they don’t listen to. Those that choose to be offended by such things act as if the artist came directly to them and said, “Hey I made this art for you because I think you specifically would enjoy it” and then made them watch it just to offend them. If it offends you, don’t watch it, and don’t show it to your kids. It’s as simple as that.
