Flashback Athlete of the Month for May 2021

Bio

Our pick of the month for flashback athlete is basketball star Lisa Leslie. Leslie began playing in middle school as a favor and has been unstoppable ever since. When she was only 14, before she had even begun her first day of high school Leslie found herself with over 100 college recruitment letters from schools all over the country including Stanford and University of Tennessee.

She stayed in her home state of California for college and went to the University of Southern California where she won a swath of awards and honors including multiple Player of the Year awards and appeared at the NCAA championships four times.

After college, Leslie was drafted by the LA Sparks where she spent her 11-year career. Perhaps most notably of her career, she was the first player to ever dunk the ball in a WNBA game and that same year became the first player to score over 3,000 career points. She was the first player to reach 6,000 points in her career and retired while holding that record.

She was voted MVP of the WNBA three times and with her team won two consecutive WNBA championships. She has appeared in the Olympics four times and earned four gold medals, the second female player to ever do so.

Since her basketball career ended she has modeled for publications such as vogue and is currently a studio analyst for Orlando Magic. She also coaches for the Triplets in the BIG3 professional basketball league.
