Tuesday’s dramatic 126-121 overtime victory by the Dallas Mavericks over the New York Knicks featured a historic triple-double from Luka Dončić. The 23-year-old helped the Mavericks rally from a nine-point deficit with just 33 seconds left in regulation by tallying a career-high 60 points, a career-high 21 rebounds, and 10 assists. “I’m tired as hell,” Dončić said after the game. “I need a recovery beer.”
It is the first time a player has achieved that stat line in NBA history. According to ESPN, every single one of the 13,884 NBA teams that trailed by at least nine points with 35 seconds or less to play had lost the game over the past 20 seasons. However, in the game’s pivotal final play, Doni purposefully missed a free throw, grabbed the rebound, and then scored on a putback to level the score and force overtime.
