The Problematic Beauty Standards of the ‘It Girl’ and ‘Clean Girl’ Trends

The Problematic Beauty Standards of the ‘It Girl’ and ‘Clean Girl’ Trends

Social media has been telling us girls, how to look, behave, and thrive since the very beginning. A role that in the past was reserved for TV, female product commercials, and magazines has now been taken over by these multiple social interfaces, with one major difference: they’re collaborative—which means that on social media, we get to chip in, judge one another, scrutinize every aspect of someone else’s life, and of course, lie.

Tom Brady Reveals NFL’s Worst-Kept Secret on Podcast

Brady, whose return to the Buccaneers next season is still uncertain, casually admitted on the podcast that holding happens on every single play in the NFL. “Is there holding by the offensive line and defensive line on every play? Yes.” While “every” play does seem a bit exaggerated, according to sports outlets, it does make a lot of sense to fans who’ve long suspected that there is a lot more holding, which is the illegal use of the hand or arm to restrain another player who isn’t in possession of the ball, going on than referees are willing to–or can–whistle.

What’s Up with High U.S. Egg Prices?

As someone who eats plenty of eggs, the higher prices have not slipped my attention. If you have been grocery shopping recently, or even checked social media, it’s pretty obvious that egg prices are soaring. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average price of a dozen eggs rose 59% last year with prices more than doubling in West Virginia and six other states in the upper Midwest. This jump in price was even more shocking in the case of eggs classified grade A, with prices soaring up to almost 140%.

Biden to End Covid National and Public Emergencies in May

The Biden administration plans to end the Covid-19 national and public emergencies in May, the White House announced on Monday. The emergencies are set to expire on May 11. The announcement came in opposition to two House Republican measures to end the emergencies sooner, instead reiterating administration policy and stating that the emergencies have been extended into May. The reason for May is because Republicans’ “abrupt end” would create “wide-ranging chaos and uncertainty throughout the health care system,” according to the White House.

Blinken Headed to the Middle East as US Alarm Over Violence Grows

The State Department announced Thursday that Secretary of State Antony Blinken will visit Egypt, Israel, and the West Bank this weekend as the United States expressed concern over an uptick in violence following Israel’s deadliest operation in the West Bank in 20 years. Blinken’s trip to Israel had been planned for weeks, but his discussions in Jerusalem and Ramallah are expected to be dominated by the Israeli raid on a West Bank refugee camp earlier on Thursday, which the Palestinians claim resulted in the deaths of nine people, including a 61-year-old woman. Ranking This Season’s Top 3 Trade Assets for Each NBA Team

New aspirations for 30 fanbases, the prospect of a new group of breakout ballers, and a nightly highlight reel that will be difficult for your eyes to believe all accompany the beginning of a new NBA season.
