Trump Organization Fined $1.6 Million for Tax Fraud

Trump Organization Fined $1.6 Million for Tax Fraud

Donald Trump’s business was fined $1.6 million on Friday for a plan in which the former president’s senior employees avoided paying personal income taxes while receiving opulent benefits. This is a symbolic, very little setback for a corporation with billions of dollars in assets. After the Trump Organization was found guilty of 17 tax offenses, including conspiracy and fabricating company records, last month, the judge could only impose a punishment on it.
The amount ordered by Judge Juan Manuel Merchan was double the taxes that a select group of executives were able to dodge on advantages like rent-free residences in Trump buildings, high-end vehicles, and private school tuition. It was the maximum amount permitted by law.

Supreme Court Paves the Way for Donald Trump’s Tax Returns to Be Handed Over to Congress

The United States Supreme Court paved the way this week for a Democrat-controlled House committee to obtain Donald Trump’s tax returns. The House Ways and Means Committee chairman, Democrat Richard Neal, first requested the tax returns from the IRS in 2019, while Trump was still in office.
When the IRS refused to turn over the returns, the Ways and Means Committee filed a lawsuit against the IRS, Treasury, and former Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin. The case proceeded through both federal and state courts, with Trump’s legal team repeatedly failing in its efforts to keep the returns hidden from public view.

Trump Seeks to Block Treasury Department from Giving His Tax Returns to Congress

On Wednesday, lawyers of former President Trump urged a federal judge to block the Treasury Department and the IRS from handing his tax returns over to the House Ways and Means Committee, which is controlled by Democrats. The committee stated that the reason for seeking the returns is to examine how the IRS audits presidents. The lawyers said that it’s simply a pretext for “wanting to look for something embarrassing” in federal court in Washington.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office is expected to bring criminal charges against former President Donald Trump’s company, the Trump Organization, and its chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg, as soon as Thursday.
