Selective Service Announcement

As of early March 2026, the United States Selective Service System has officially submitted a proposed rule that would enforce automatic military draft registration.  Calling for young, eligible men between the ages of 18 and 25 to be automatically enrolled into the military draft, taking effect in December of 2026.

As reported by CNN Politics, “Young, eligible men will be automatically registered for the military draft pool starting in December as part of a measure tucked into the annual defense policy bill Congress signed into law late last year.”  In addition to this, additional reports from CNN Politics have introduced the fact that the last time this was implemented was in February 1973 for the Vietnam War.

I wonder if this presents any indication for what will come for the future? With the current events recently making headlines all over the country, it is getting harder to ignore such thoughts of going to war. While the president claims that “we’ve won” the war already, I wonder why enact the automatic draft? If we have already won, then what is the point of gathering potential troops if we are not at war?

To insert my opinion, this act presents an uncertain future for the American people. Yes, the American people exclusively, since we will be the ones potentially risking our lives for a war that we did not initiate. Rather grim, I am aware, but this would not be the first time such a thing had happened in history.
