From crime dramas to documentaries, why are we obsessed with the dark side? (Op-Ed)

From crime dramas to documentaries, why are we obsessed with the dark side? (Op-Ed)

The criminal world is a terrifying reality; that’s no secret. But it does, in a sick way, make for entertainment in the form of crime dramas and documentaries. There’s no doubt that society has a fixation on what can be considered the ‘dark’ side. Whether it’s a character involved in something they really shouldn’t be […]

The New Gossip Girl—Does it Compare to the Original?

The New Gossip Girl—Does it Compare to the Original?

It has been a decade since we last heard from our favorite Gossip Girl about the drama that’s happening in the upper east side of New York.
HBO came back with a new, post-quarantine Gossip Girl.
One thing about the original Gossip Girl is that it was far from realistic. With no real realistic concept of age, a lot of times you would forget that the characters are supposed to be kids in high school. Not to mention how messy these kids’ love lives are. Regardless this was the charm of Gossip Girl.

Why Schools Need More Drama Education

One of the most memorable learning experiences in my days as a grade schooler didn’t take place inside a classroom, but rather on the stage of my quaint elementary school’s small auditorium. A traveling acting duo–a man and woman, whose names I’ve sadly forgotten– stopped by our school to sweep us up in a two-day improv training experience, where the children of my grade got to romp about on stage and build upon a variety of kid-imagined scenarios in the name of theater. I found the whole thing amazing, and it connected me and my classmates in a way that I had never experienced before. Though I had no formal knowledge of the technical benefits of drama instruction, I knew even then that this was something everyone should experience.

The actor sat down with The Daily Show host Trevor Noah and he talked about the altercation, which overshadowed his first Oscars win for his role on King Richard. He admitted that it was a talk with his 9-year-old nephew that brought him some clarity.

Why Sitcoms Are The Best Type Of Shows

Why Sitcoms Are The Best Type Of Shows

magine sitting down to watch something on TV, only to realize that you have nothing new to watch— what is the go-to show you choose? Whether you realize it or not, the type of shows that people most consistently return to are sitcoms. Personally, I lean towards shows that are humorous, comforting, and generally help me to escape into someone else’s world for a bit. Programs like “New Girl,” “Ted Lasso,” “Parks and Recreation,” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” all possess that crucial feature that drama shows do not, which is the characteristic I have coined, “rewatchability.”

Best Book-to-Screen Adaptations of the Decade So Far

Few things can provide such a solid base and inspiration for movies as books. Novels from all time periods and corners of the world have been movie material since the early days of cinema, with some of the greatest and most memorable adaptations being 2006 period romance Pride and Prejudice, Hitchcock’s 1980 adaptation of psychological thriller The Shining, Kubrick’s take of A Clockwork Orange, and early 2000s’ recreation of Tolkien’s classic Lord of the Rings.

“C’mon C’mon” asks “How do you see your future?”

The black-and-white drama film has been strongly critically acclaimed in the past couple of months. Focusing on a radio journalist who babysits his nephew on a cross-country trip, the film establishes the importance of the relationship between the two while interviewing kids around the world on how they see their future. The interview with the kids that are shown throughout the film are actually unscripted and are real kids, not actors.
