A devastating wildfire near Yosemite National Park has grown into one of California’s biggest blazes of the year, burning more than 14,000 acres and forcing thousands to evacuate from their communities. The blaze near the national park has burned out of control amid sweltering temperatures and low humidity, officials state.
On Thursday California lawmakers passed a bill to protect abortion providers as well as patients from civil suits and penalties in other states. The next step for what lawmakers are calling Assembly Bill 1666 is to have Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom, who supports abortion rights, sign the bill. It would take effect immediately with his signature.
At least one person is dead and 4 are critically injured after a shooting in a Laguna Woods church on Sunday. The shooter opened fire Sunday afternoon at the Geneva Presbyrerian Church in Laguna Woods. At the time, members of the church were hosting a Taiwanese congregation. Authorities said the victims injured in the shooting included four Asian men, ages 66, 75, 82 and 92, and one Asian woman age 86.

On October 5th, California governor Gavin Newsom announced that he has nominated Martin Jenkins for Associate Justice of the California Supreme Court.
