California has a reputation as a tough place to buy a gun.
It is where background checks and mandated waiting periods for the purchase of weapons are located. It is one of just eight states and Washington, D.C., that have a statute that outlaws so-called military-style assault rifles. Additionally, Texas was one of the first states to pass a red-flag law in 2016, which enables law enforcement to seize a person’s weapons if they are deemed to be a danger to themselves or others.

Asian Community Grieving After Lunar New Year Shooting in Monterey Park
The first Lunar New Year celebration in Monterey Park since before the epidemic began with a happy start as enormous crowds filled the streets of the community near Los Angeles with a majority of Chinese Americans for live entertainment, carnival games, and lots of food. However, disaster struck Saturday night as a shooter entered a ballroom dancing venue and started shooting, leaving 10 dead, 10 injured, and frightened revelers running into the streets.
The planned two-day celebration to ring in the Year of the Rabbit, which featured dragon dancers marching through downtown streets decked with red lanterns, came to a shocking conclusion with the shooting that left five men and five women dead.
Ex-GOP House Candidate Arrested in Shootings at Four Democrats’ Homes
Solomon Peña, a former Republican House candidate from New Mexico, was arrested Monday for allegedly orchestrating a string of drive-by shootings that targeted four Democratic leaders in the state, Albuquerque police say. Peña, who lost his 2022 race to incumbent Rep. Miguel P. Garcia (D) and claimed election fraud following his defeat, paid four men to shoot at the homes of two county commissioners and two state legislators and even involved himself in one of the shootings, Albuquerque police acting commander, Kyle Hartsock, said yesterday at a news conference.
Ukraine War: 9 Dead and 19 Injured in Kharkiv
Yesterday afternoon, Ukrainian citizens reported that the Russian troops had started bombarding the city of Kharkiv, which is about 50 km from the Russian border, again. The Russian artillery was mostly directed at suburban homes and buildings. At least nine people are said to have lost their lives in the fire.
