On Sunday, Mayor Eric Adams tested positive for coronavirus, after showing no symptoms other than a raspy voice. He has made plans to reopen the city for tourism and commerce, but the coronavirus cases have risen with the BA.2 variant. Even with the prior vaccinations and one booster shot, Mayor Adams is still able to contract COVID-19.
Governor Kathy Hochul plans to increase state spending to $1.4 billion to support New Yorkers in childcare subsidies. This includes setting up day care centers in universities and additional support for working parents. Despite the actions gearing to support struggling parents, the Democratic Legislature felt that this was still not enough to support the entire New York State in childcare.
Coachella and Stagecoach will not be requiring vaccinations or masking at their upcoming festivals. Coachella is a music and arts festival that will be held April 15-17 and April 23-25. Stagecoach is a country music festival that will be held April 29-May 1. For over a year and a half, Broadway has been closed due to the Covid-19 virus, but starting this month, many Broadway classics are returning to the stage with some safety measures in place. Earlier this summer, some productions were already back on stage such as “Springsteen on Broadway” and “Pass Over.”
In a memo today from Defense Secretary Llyod Austin, Military troops must immediately begin to get the COVID-19 vaccine as the Defense Department has added it to the list of required shots troops must get as part of their military service.This decision comes after the Food and Drug Administrations full approval of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine earlier this week on Monday.
