Central Intelligence Agency director William J. Burns said that Putin may turn nuclear to claim victory in conquering Ukraine to stop the offensives against them. This is the first time the White House has brought up this concern during the seven weeks of war in Ukraine. Burns has dealt with Putin very often and he served as the American ambassador to Russia.

Biden To Call Putin In Hopes Of De-Escalating Ukraine Situation
Presidents Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin will speak by phone on Thursday about the Russian troop buildup near Ukraine. This comes after the Kremlin has stepped up its calls for security guarantees and test fired hypersonic missiles to underscore its demands. It was Putin who requested the call, the second between the two this month, ahead of the scheduled talks between senior U.S. and Russian officials set for Jan. 10 in Geneva, says AP News.
