Fashion Designer of the Month for September 2026
Tanveer Wasim France, aka Tan France, is a British-American fashion designer. Born in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, France became interested in fashion at a young age through the Disney-themed clothing at his grandparents’ denim factory. After graduating from high school, France studied fashion at Doncaster College before starting his career in fashion in Manchester and London. France began working for brands including Zara, Selfridges, and Chanel, first in menswear before transitioning his focus to women’s fashion.
France continued his work in the United States in 2008 in New York City as company director at Shade Clothing prior to opening his own fashion company, Kingdom & State, in 2011. Many of his designs would be bought by retailers like ModCloth and Forever 21; he even became co-founder and CEO of the Rachel Parcell Inc clothing line in 2016.
Shortly thereafter, France would retire, selling his businesses before transitioning into media through the role of fashion expert for the rebooted series Queer Eye on Netflix in 2018.
