The suspect involved in the random box-cutter attack on a 59-year-old Asian woman in NYC has been arrested and charged with a hate crime, police said. Anthony Evans, 30, was caught on camera slashing the 59-year-old woman Sunday morning as she was walking along Seventh Avenue near West 42nd Street in Manhattan, authorities say. Evans– who had been previously arrested more than 30 times– was arrested by the NYPD on Tuesday in Manhattan and charged with assault as a hate crime and criminal possession of a weapon.
A year-long investigation of illegal drugs in New York City led to the arrest of five people for more than 1,600 counts. Officials of the NYPD confirmed on Thursday that 182 handguns were recovered in an illegal gun- smuggling ring that ran weapons from Tennessee to be sold in the streets of Queens.
Protesters have long spoken about the murder of George Floyd back in 2020. Police used excessive force, and recently the law department fired a lawyer for misrepresenting in the court on the George Floyd case. Lawyer Dara L. Weiss drafted an email to the lawyers for the protestors to discuss about the dispute, but she never sent it.
Crime in New York City has increased by 60 percent in comparison to the crime rates in March 2021. From break-ins to subway pushes, New Yorkers find it impossible to find peace in their city without worrying every single step they take to work and home. A subway rider said, “I don’t feel safe anymore. I really don’t feel safe. I would rather take the bus for two hours, versus taking the train for 45 minutes.”
Senator Alessandra Biaggi is involved in gerrymandering a five-county district and she is not getting any favors from Long Island. Senator Biaggi represents a portion of the Bronx and supported the defunding of police in her Twitter. Before she could delete the Tweet, the general public had already snapshotted it. Nassau County Detectives Association president John Wighaus said that her promotion to defund the police will further bring injustice to residents of New York and Long Island because criminals will not be given consequences for their horrendous crimes.
In comparison to this same time last year, New York City has experienced an increase of 38.5% in overall major crimes. In the latest statistics shared by the NYPD, the city reported 9,566 incidents under the ‘major index crime categories’ in January of 2022; a fair increase from last year’s reported 6,905 cases.

Four men have been arrested for alleged involvement with a drug trafficking organization that sold ‘fentanyl-laced heroin’ to actor and producer Michael K. Williams. Williams was an emmy-nominated actor and producer, best known for his roles in ‘The Wire’, ‘12 Years a Slave’, and ‘Boardwalk Empire’. Williams was found dead in September of 2021 in his New York City apartment. Shortly after his death, the NY Medical Examiner’s Office determined Williams’ cause of death to be an accidental overdose.
