In a sports betting first, bookmakers on Saturday (Nov. 5) handed over an eye-popping $75 million to a Houston furniture store owner who earlier this year placed $10 million in bets on the Houston Astros to win the World Series. Astros superfan and Gallery Furniture chain owner Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale broke records this weekend by cashing out what is now known as the largest sports betting win in history. McIngvale had placed $10 million in bets across multiple books, his biggest one being a $3 million bet with Caesar Sportsbook. A lot of that money came from McIngvale’s own customers through a store promotion, something he’s done for the past few years; those who spent at least $3,000 on custom sets or power motion furniture at his store were promised that money back if the Astros won the World Series. Before the Astros won the ALCS, McIngvale promised customers twice that amount back.
