The public’s realization that these abuses of power were open secrets in Hollywood triggered the #MeToo movement, which encouraged men and women to share their experiences with sexual assault and harrassment. At the time, powerful men across all industries were outed as routine predators who used their station to coerce and abuse both women and men.
