Why 2 Just Stop Oil Protesters Threw Soup at a Van Gogh Painting

This Friday in room 43 of the London National Gallery, home to many famous works of art such as Claude Monet’s The Water-Lily Pond and Jan Van Eyck’s Arnolfini Portrait, two protesters shocked the crowd that had gathered around Vincent Van Gogh’s Sunflowers, when they emptied the contents of two tomato soup cans onto the work of art. The Just Stop Oil protesters, who were there representing the organization which is known for its non-violent protests of fossil fuel production across the U.K., then proceeded to sit down and glue their hands to the wall under the painting they had just vandalized.
