In wake of the overturning of Roe v. Wade, many U.S. companies have moved quickly to provide support and financial help to their employees who need to receive abortions in states that have outlawed the procedure.
President Joe Biden addressed the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade on Friday, condemning their ruling. The Supreme Court ruled to end constitutional protections for abortion rights, now opening the door for many states to impose strict restrictions and overall bans on abortions. It is the first time in at least 80 years that the court has overruled a fundamental constitution right, which Biden called “a realization of an extreme ideology and a tragic error”.
In 1973, Roe v. Wade established a woman’s constitutional right to have an abortion. On Friday, the United States Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in a 6-3 decision, giving states the ability to establish their abortion laws and restrictions unless acted upon by Congress.
