As summer has nearly arrived, many Americans’ plans to visit the beach or a community pool may be disrupted due to a nationwide lifeguard shortage. Out of over 300,000 pools throughout the country, between one third and one half of them will be affected by this absence of personnel. Disinterest in lifeguarding has been increasing, however Covid and higher pay offered by restaurants and retail is forcing more people to pass on lifeguarding positions.
