The Colorado Avalanche won hockey’s Stanley Cup for the first time in 21 years last night, making this their third championship win since joining the NHL in 1979. Their competitors, the Tampa Bay lightning, have also only won three Stanley Cup titles, but were expected to win this title once again following their 2020 and 2021 successes. Tampa Bay’s team also includes some of the best in the NHL, including goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy and defenceman Victor Hedman. However, Colorado ruined the three year Stanley Cup streak for Tampa Bay, winning their fourth game last night 2-1 and sweeping the series.
