Nakia Creek Wildfire Reaches 2,000 Acres in Washington State

The Nakia Creek fire, as it’s called, is burning on the extremely steep Larch Block section of the Yacolt Burn State Forest near Camas, Washington, approximately 20 miles northeast of Portland, Oregon. Clark County officials have said that the fire is currently 5% contained as of Sunday night, a “very rough” estimate due to the large amount of smoke in the air. There have also been smaller fires reported at Chelatchie Prairie and Sunset Campground, with others in Skamania County; more information has yet to be reported on them. Better numbers are expected later today as emergency services scope out the scene.

A Spirit Airlines plane landing at Hartsfield-Jackson International airport in Atlanta on Sunday morning briefly caught fire on the runway when one of its landing gear breaks overheated and started to release smoke. First responders in the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department hosed off the aircrafts tires, and managed to put out the fire which was ignited at 9:25 a.m. Passengers from Flight 383 from Tampa, Florida were able to safely get off the plane. According to Spirit spokesman Erik Hofmeyer, there were no injuries.
