On Thursday President Joe Biden awarded the presidential Medal of Freedom to 17 individuals, including former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, U.S. soccer player Megan Rapinoe, Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, and Khizer Khan, the father of a fallen Muslim Army captain. To start off the event, Biden gave a small speech about the award, calling the recipients an “extraordinary, extraordinary group of Americans.”
