Joe Biden and Xi Jin Ping Meet in Bali

In preparation for the COP27 convention, President Xi Jin Ping and President Joe Biden met in Bali. This was the first time that two world leaders have sat down in person to meet since Joe Biden was elected as president. Before the meeting began, tensions between the two countries were at an all time high. Orville Schell, former professor of journalism at UC Berkeley, explained that because Biden had met Xi before, Biden was one of the better equipped American politicians to diminish tensions between the countries.

There is an estimated $100 billion in damage during the invasion of Ukraine. When the diplomats of Russia and Ukraine met on Thursday, they failed to find the resolution to the war. The Russians refuse to back down until the Ukrainians demilitarize their side. Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said, “The broad narrative he conveyed to me is that they will continue their aggression until Ukraine meets their demands, and the least of these demands is surrender.”

The Talk May Need a Bit More Work Between Russia and Ukraine

On Monday, leaders of Russia and Ukraine met at the Ukrainian-Belarusian border to cover diplomatic plans involving the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin did not meet in this meeting. The delegates of each nation visited on Monday – the topics of discussion were not yet revealed. Kyiv faces conflict as citizens are forced to stay inside. With Russian soldiers taking over the city, Ukrainian citizens cannot go outside because they will be risked being labeled as the enemy.

The War With Ukraine Threatens Soccer Sponsorships

With Russia’s recent invasion in Ukraine Thursday morning, their actions are scaring away sponsorships for the future UEFA games. The 2022 UEFA game would be in St. Petersburg, Russia. European nations wanted to relocate the game in fear of the aftermath of the war, but the organizers of the Champion League have yet to make the relocation on the soccer tournament. UEFA is hoping that Russia would sooner head to peace because so many civilian lives are affected by the invasion.
