NASA Launches Artemis I

The historic Artemis I mission took flight in the early hours of Wednesday morning after months of anticipation. The milestone event kicked off a journey that will send an uncrewed spacecraft around the moon, paving the way for NASA to return astronauts to the lunar surface for the first time in half a century. The Orion spacecraft’s spectacular first views of Earth were shared more than nine hours into the journey, with the vehicle about 57,000 miles away from our planet on its way to the moon.

NASA’s Artemis Moon Rocket is Hours from Launch

Once again NASA is on a countdown for the first flight of its new Artemis rocket, which is expected to carry astronauts to the moon again in a couple of years. The launch was supposed to take place back in August, but a faulty engine sensor caused it to be postponed. The 32-story-tall rocket is expected to launch tomorrow, November 16th at 1:04 a.m. EST (0604 GMT) from Launch Complex 39B at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida and its mission consists of sending a capsule, without a crew on board, around the moon and back, so that managers can put its systems through critical tests. The program also aims to put the first woman and first person of color on the moon.
