Senior House Republicans are rushing quickly to establish evidence against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas as they seriously consider starting a rare impeachment process against a Cabinet secretary, a move that could provoke strong opposition from GOP moderates.
Republicans claim that hearings on the issues at the southern border may serve as a prelude to an investigation into Mayorkas’ impeachment are already being prepared by important committee chairmen. Hearings on the surge in immigration and security issues at the border will soon be held by the Oversight, Homeland Security, and Judiciary committees of the House.

As the House Republicans assume control of Congress and demand an investigation of the Biden administration, a new front has opened up for them: confidential documents found in one of Vice President Joe Biden’s private offices. As Congress voted Tuesday to create a panel designed to look into the “weaponization” of the federal government, the news of Biden’s possession of classified documents and the swift Republican response that followed added to the already lengthy list of oversight priorities that House Republicans have outlined now that they have committee control and the ability to subpoena witnesses. 221-211 were the party-line votes.
