Brittney Griner’s Lawyers Say she was Prescribed Medical Cannabis for ‘Severe Chronic Pain’
Brittney Griner’s lawyers told a Russian court today that doctors in the U.S. prescribed her medical cannabis two years ago to treat her severe chronic pain. She was tested for drugs and came out clean, her lawyers said previously. Griner’s defense team submitted to the Russian court a letter from a US medical facility issuing a permit in Arizona in 2020 for the use of medical cannabis for the WNBA star to treat her chronic pain caused by injuries sustained during her sports career.

For decades the federal government, and many governments throughout the world, have considered marijuana to be a dangerous drug. So dangerous that it needed to be strictly criminalized. However, in the eyes of lawmakers and much of the public, alcohol is not regarded with the same caution.
