In the past three years, Manhattan’s elite school, The Collegiate School, has been working on a new project to change the Dutchman as their official mascot. their previous motto was “Unless God, then in vain,” now changes to “Wisdom, Community, Kindness.” The Dutchman mascot was a representation of Peter Stuyvesant, the last Dutch director-general for the New Netherland colony until the English conquered the land, which is now the New York and New Jersey areas we see today. Some upper level staff in the school are conducting changes due to growing wokeism from parents to enhance diverse representation.
