U.S. Provides $800 Million Military Assistance to Ukraine

On Wednesday, President Joe Biden made an announcement that the United States would be sending an additional $800 million to Ukraine for military weapons. They are expecting a larger assault coming from Russia and would be armed with heavier artillery. The military aid would include artillery systems, artillery rounds, armored personnel carriers and unmanned coastal defense boats.

After Russian pianist and music prodigy Alexander Malofeev arrived in Montreal, ready to play his debut performance at the Montreal Symphony Orchestra in Canada, his show was canceled. Malofeev, 20-years-old, was scheduled to perform in the Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal for three shows on March 9, 10, and 13, as well as a show in August in Vancouver. After the Orchestra received multiple complaints from Ukrainians and their supporters in Canada, Pascale Ouimet, a spokesperson for the orchestra, released a statement Wednesday to cancel these concerts.

As of a recent report from stopaapihate.org, from March of 2020 to December of 2021, there have been a total of 10,905 reported hate crimes against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Verbal harassment is the biggest category 63.0% with physical assault following in second 16.2%, and avoidance of AAPIs at 16.1%. In March of 2020, WHO declared COVID-19 a pandemic and President Donald Trump declared coronavirus a national emergency.

Gov. Hochul’s Budget Struggles to Catch Up with NYC’s Expenses

A couple of Tuesdays ago, Governor Kathy Hochul revealed $216 million in improving the state of New York. The focuses she has of these expenses would be in highways, bridges, transits, 100,000 housing units, and the services in public universities. As COVID makes the state lose resources for healthcare services on cancer, regular health, and other things, Hochul intends to expand expenses to provide bonuses for healthcare workers to motivate them to continue working in the medical field. In addition to this. Hochul wants to provide funding to support small businesses, musicals, social programs, and childcare.
