It wasn’t until Tuesday that Biles returned to the Games with fervor and took the Olympic bronze medal for her performance on vault that she confirmed to the world that mental fitness is just important as physical fitness in the world of competitive sports.

The entire nation was stunned on Tuesday morning to hear that Olympic gymnastics superstar Simone Biles was suddenly withdrawing from the All-Around Team Final in Tokyo. She left the floor shortly after her awkward landing on the vault, and came back out in her warmup clothes, where she sat out the rest of the day and cheered on her teammates. On Wednesday, she bowed out of the Individual All-Around Final to focus on her mental health, something she has been dealing with all Games long.
